Cloverdale

Located 85 miles north of San Francisco off Highway 101 in extreme northern Sonoma County, the city of Cloverdale offers a small-town, mellow atmosphere surrounded by some of the Wine Country's most spectacular scenery.

With an estimated population of about 8,800 people, Cloverdale was incorporated in the 1870s with the arrival of the San Francisco and Northern Pacific Railroad. Today, the city's downtown section features an eclectic mix of restaurants, brewpubs, local shops, a performing-arts center, a historical society, and a movie theater. Throughout the summer, the Cloverdale Arts Alliance hosts a series of live music performances on Friday evenings.

Situated at the northern end of the Alexander Valley, Cloverdale residents -- like those in other parts of Sonoma County -- enjoy multiple word-class wineries within a short drive. The region's mild climate makes it easy to enjoy the region's excellent outdoor-recreation opportunities, including the Russian River, nearby Lake Sonoma, and a network of city parts. Due to its close proximity to Mendicino County, Cloverdale also offers faster access to the vast, towering redwood forests of Northern California than do other parts of the Bay Area.
